The next season in the calendar is one that's both more recognizable but also more misunderstood: Lent. For most of us who grew up in the Northeast, Lent is something our Irish or Italian friends observe. We notice that Catholic parishes start hosting fish fries, or that coworkers are "giving something up" for Lent. But how is Good News going to look at Lent?

For the last few years, I've taken time in the Fall to reflect on life in our church and consider where God is calling us. This Fall, I've been reflecting on the themes of work and rest.

All of us tend to live with at least one eye on the calendar. Whether its the End of Quarter, the start of spring training, or when the kids are off from school; our lives are shaped by calendar rhythms.
