Everyone has a Calendar

All of us tend to live with at least one eye on the calendar. Whether its the End of Quarter, the start of spring training, or when the kids are off from school; our lives are shaped by calendar rhythms. The early church, living in a busy, very un-Christian environment, slowly built its own calendar to help Christians walk through each year with an intentional focus on Christ. The start of that church calendar doesn’t happen on January 1st, but a month early on the first Sunday in Advent.

Historically, Good News has selectively used the Christian calendar. But as we approach this upcoming Advent, we plan to explore the church calendar more thoughtfully over the next year. We want to see how intentionally framing our year through the life of Jesus might help us, “set our mind on the things above.”

Our worship will still be a combination of scripture, prayer, singing, preaching, and sacraments. We will just more intentionally shift elements with the timing of the church calendar.
