Day 17 - The woman Folly is loud

Today's Reading is Proverbs 9:13-18 (NIV)

Folly is an unruly woman; she is simple and knows nothing. She sits at the door of her house, on a seat at the highest point of the city, calling out to those who pass by, who go straight on their way, "Let all who are simple come to my house!" To those who have no sense she says, "Stolen water is sweet; food eaten in secret is tasty!" But little do they know that the dead are there, that her guests are deep in the realm of the dead.

Questions to Consider about the Reading

  1. How does the woman Folly contrast with Lady Wisdom from earlier chapters?
  2. What makes stolen or secret things seem more appealing, and how do you see this in your own life?
  3. Why do you think folly is described as "loud" and attention-seeking?
  4. What are some modern examples of voices that call us away from wisdom?

What's One Thing God Wants You to Underline?

Ending Prayer God, help me recognize the difference between your voice of wisdom and the loud calls of foolishness around me. Give me discernment to choose your path, even when the wrong way seems more exciting or appealing. Keep me from being deceived by what looks good on the surface but leads to death. Amen.
