December 25th - He has come!
Merry Christmas!
“The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John bore witness about him, and cried out, “This was he of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me ranks before me, because he was before me.’ ”) For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father’s side, he has made him known.” (John 1:9–18)
Today, we celebrate God's wonderful, joyous, hope-filled incarnation into our world. Everything is changed by God's radical love for us, but one that enters our world in the most humble and ordinary way.
Further Scripture:“And he said, “Go out and stand on the mount before the Lord.” And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore the mountains and broke in pieces the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. And after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. And after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper.” (1 Kings 19:11–12)
Prayer: God thank you of this mysterious, wonderful, world shaking event. That you came not through the thunder, not with a meteorite, or a solar flare. You entered our world as a child, and one of simple means in a simple time. Help me to pause today and see how significant your arrival truly was. Let me receive the gift of life and light that you offer, and help me to listen for you in the low whisper.
