December 10th - Jesus's Forever Kingdom
Reading of Scripture
"In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence. He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all nations and peoples of every language worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed." (Daniel 7:13-14 NIV)
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to see the future? Daniel's vision gives us a remarkable glimpse into what's ahead. While most of us think of Jesus as the baby in the manger during Advent, Daniel saw something very different - he saw Jesus in his full glory and power.
In this vision, Daniel witnesses someone who looks like a "son of man" - a phrase Jesus often used to describe himself - approaching God the Father (the Ancient of Days). This is a picture of Jesus receiving his rightful authority over all creation.
The description of all nations and peoples worshiping him reminds us that Jesus isn't just for one group of people. When we celebrate Advent, we're not just remembering a historical event - we're participating in a story that includes people from every corner of the earth. This vision shows us that one day, everyone will recognize Jesus for who he truly is.
What's most striking about this passage is the eternal nature of Jesus's kingdom. In a world where governments rise and fall, where leaders come and go, Daniel sees a kingdom that will never end. This advent season, as we prepare to celebrate Jesus's first coming as a baby, we can also look forward to his return as the eternal king Daniel saw in his vision.

"Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." (Philippians 2:9-11 NIV)
